Taking it to the top ranks in Music City has never been an easy
climb. Although Teddy and Doyle Wilburn were in their early 20s when
they became full members of the world famous Grand Ole Opry, they
had been struggling to make it in country music for more than a
decade. No doubt about it, every ounce of success The Wilburn
Brothers enjoyed in their celebrated career was both hard earned and
well deserved. Their story is inspiring, not because they suddenly
appeared with a hit record that transformed them into stars
overnight, but because their determination, talent and unwavering
dedication to country music finally paid off.
Listen to any classic Wilburn Brothers album and you'll know one
thing immediately; these boys love to sing Country Music. With
tight-as-a drum two-part harmonies and spirited, twang enriched
voices, the Wilburn Bothers are quintessential "hillbilly" singers
and an important link between the old-time style of the Delmore
Brothers and modern harmonies of the Everly Brothers. But for
anyone who was around them or has listened to their music, it is
impossible to imagine these boys doing anything else. Their journey
from a humble upbringing on a modest Arkansas farm to successful
publishers, promoters, and recording artists in Nashville was a long
one, but their impressive legacy in country music is an ever
present reminder of their many great accomplishments. This is why
they deserve to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
